Katapic vs OptAEO
OptAEO and Katapic solve the same problem: product pages that Google ranks but AI assistants never quote. We are close enough that the differences are specific rather than philosophical. OptAEO writes back to Shopify and watches how often assistants cite you. Katapic writes back to WooCommerce today, splits the score into two axes you can act on separately, and publishes the method behind it. Here is every criterion that matters, including the two where OptAEO is ahead.
WooCommerce, today
OptAEO lists WooCommerce as planned. Katapic writes fixes back to your WooCommerce store in one click, through a free plugin.
Two scores, not one
A product can rank on Google and still be unreadable to an assistant. One blended number hides that. We keep the axes apart.
A method you can check
Our AI search rubric comes from published academic work, and all fifteen weights are on our methodology page. "15 factors" with unpublished weights cannot be checked.
Feature by feature
| Criterio | OptAEO | Katapic |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnosis | ||
| Free scan without an account | store score | 15 signals per product |
| Scoring method published | 15 factors, weights private | published: rubric and all 15 weights |
| Search and AI visibility scored separately | one blended number | two independent axes |
| Structured fields checked on their own | inside the single score | separate axis, barcode validated |
| Fixing | ||
| Bulk rewriting | yes | worst products first |
| Guarantee a listing never gets worse | not stated | checked at write time |
| Identifiers never generated by AI | not stated | product rule, never synthesised |
| Store integration | ||
| WooCommerce, writes back to the store | announced, not live | one click, free plugin |
| Shopify, writes back to the store | yes | not offered |
OptAEO is ahead here. If you sell on Shopify, it writes fixes back today and Katapic does not. On WooCommerce, which runs the largest share of stores on the web, the position is reversed. | ||
| Product feed validator, no account | CSV, XML and JSON | |
| Languages and markets | ||
| Output languages | not stated | 10 |
| Tracks how often assistants cite you | yes | not offered |
OptAEO is ahead here too. Continuous monitoring is not part of what Katapic offers: our work stops at diagnosing each listing and fixing it. | ||
| Price and access | ||
| Pricing model | monthly subscription | one time purchase |
| What you buy does not expire | renews monthly | credits stay until used |

The short version
If your store runs on WooCommerce, the comparison is not close: OptAEO cannot write fixes back to it yet, and everything downstream of that gap follows. You would be scoring a catalogue you then have to correct by hand. If you run Shopify, they are the practical choice today. And if what you actually want is to know which products are invisible and why, in a method you can audit, in your buyers’ language, without a monthly commitment, that is the case Katapic was built for.
Where OptAEO is the better choice
Two of the rows above go their way, and a third reason has nothing to do with features. If any of these is your situation, they are the honest answer.
- You sell on Shopify. Their write back works there today; ours does not. Waiting for us would mean doing the fixes by hand in the meantime.
- You want to watch AI citations continuously. They ship that as part of the product, and Katapic does not offer it.
- You are a large brand that needs dedicated support and enterprise governance. Their top tier is built for that, and we are not pretending otherwise.
Is Katapic an OptAEO alternative?
For WooCommerce stores, yes, and it is the closer fit because OptAEO does not write back to WooCommerce yet. Both score products for AI search visibility and fix the weak ones. The differences are the platform, the fact that we keep search and AI visibility as two separate scores, and the pricing model.
Do you score products the same way?
Both use fifteen weighted factors, which is a coincidence worth being clear about. Ours are eight search signals and seven AI search signals kept apart, with the AI rubric based on published academic research and every weight listed on our methodology page. Theirs roll up into one number per product and the weights are not published.
What does OptAEO do that Katapic does not?
Two things, both real. It writes fixes back to Shopify, which we do not support. And it monitors how often AI assistants cite your products over time, which we do not sell today. Both are listed in the table above rather than left out of it.
How does the pricing differ?
OptAEO is a monthly subscription with a free tier. Katapic sells one time credit packs that never expire, so a merchant with three hundred products to fix now and a handful of new ones each month pays for the work rather than for a plan that renews whether the work happens or not.
Can I try Katapic without signing up?
Yes. You can scan your WooCommerce catalogue and see a search and AI visibility score for every product before creating an account. Connecting the store to apply the fixes is one click through the free WooCommerce plugin.
